A Mini Contest. A Very Simple One.
This contest is now over.
Current Prize: $50 $55 $60 (increases gradually)
I’m planning to re-launch the blog (AGAIN!!), but this time under a different name and with more related content (such as web development news, tools and resources). I’ve never liked neither the name or the domain of my blog. I think it’s too personal for this kind of blog. And the “.ws” TLD is just… bad.
I’ve been trying to come up with a name for way too long. So now I’m willing to pay you just to come up with a decent name for my site. The name should be:
- Related to the topic of this blog if possible (web development in general - not just design). If the name can tell what the site is about; that’s a plus. Relevance is not necessary though.
- Serious. Not 1337, emo nor “cool”.
- Easy to spell and remember.
- Have an available “.net” or “.com” domain (no hyphens or numbers).
- An example of names I like: Coding Horror (codinghorror.com) and Copy Blogger (copyblogger.com). (I’m not using “Coding Terror”. I know you’re tempted to suggest it!!)
That’s all. You can think about it wherever you are I guess. In return, I’ll send you a $60 Amazon gift certificate (or pay you directly if I can).
Note that the prize will grow gradually until either I come up with a good name (and save the money) or someone else beats me to it.
P.S: the names will be edited out of comments until the end of this mini-contest.
***ENTRY***
It’s simple, catchy and has two meanings to it.
That’s all I can think of right now. Thanks for having a contest like this! How many times can we enter?
Thanks Jess. Try to think of something shorter and less “personal” though.
You can enter as many times as you wish.
Okay, here are some more off the top of my head. It is hard to think of a new name!
***ENTRY***
It is hard indeed. Otherwise I wouldn’t have considered paying for one.
Thanks for your entry.
Hola Mashhoor!
hmm, maybe ***ENTRY***
Obrigado Amigo!
I really like your entry Rudy. Too bad the “.com” isn’t available.
The prize has been increased to $55 by the way.
I don’n why, but the name I suggested above dawned out of hand. And I like it too
Yea, unfortunally I noticed that on the majority of interesting domain names are already placed redirects or feeds
Generally speaking, how many domains do you need?
here are some ones for you
***ENTRY***
By the way, does you know, what does mean this domain status:
- clientDeleteProhibited, clientTransferProhibited
- clientDeleteProhibited, clientTransferProhibited, clientUpdateProhibite
Yea, I hate the fact that many good domains are not being used.
I just need one domain.
Thanks for your efforts in finding those names Rudy. I’m afraid they’re a little bit too trendy though. The last two are good ones to grab, but they don’t suite my blog. Besides, I have a very small chance to get them when they expire ;).
Regarding the status you got - as far as I know it means that the owner can’t update his domain’s information nor transfer it to another registrar. However, this could be because the owner is “locking” the domain to prevent unauthorized updates or transfers.
Opinions differ. Probably, I don’t quite grasped what are your needs.
By the way, have you chosen the blog name yet? It is simply interesting what is the favourite and the most suitable one from you point of view
how about
***ENTRY***
If I win, consider the domain a gift from me
Anyways, all of these domains are available in the auction section on godaddy.com…
Rudy:
No I haven’t.
I can’t put a criteria for everything I would like. You first entry wasn’t like anything I was expecting, but it was very good.\
So far, it might be the one I’m going with. I’m still waiting to see if I (or someone else) can come up with another one(s).
Feras:
You’ve got some great suggestions. But as you said, they’re already taken.
By the way, the minimum bid for the “clever” one is $800!!!! So, no thank you.
I’ve been thinking about this for a while, here’s some of the things I came up with:
***ENTRY***
Thanks Jihad!
What does the last name mean though?
meme
(Pronounced “meem”) An idea, thought or piece of information that is passed from generation to generation through imitation and behavioral replication.

ah! thanks for the clarification.
***ENTRY***
profession + name = ideal mix
hehe. Good to see you Arthur. Thanks for your entry!
will this work for you?:
***ENTRY***.
i’m trying to use the word “***” in the biggining of your name [which means “*****” or “****”] + some of the words you may like.
my english is not that good, so i hope you don’t find this funny!.
Thank you Mussab. They’re not funny at all.
oh, and the prize has been increased another $5.
Ok there’s a strong chance I’m picking one of the entries. I’m having a hard time deciding between two entries for two different people.
I’ll keep you updated
How about… ***ENTRY***
Thanks. That would be a great name if I posted at that frequency.
Hi Mashhoor,
A very interesting contest.
My entries are:
Using your name (or part of it): ***ENTRY***
More relevant names: ***ENTRY*** (****** is already taken), ***ENTRY*** (my favourite).
And a wacky one: ***ENTRY***
That’s all I’ve got..
Thanks Haider for coming up with these entries. Some pretty interesting ones in there. My decision is getting harder with every entry! (which is good and bad at the same time)
